The trouble that many people run into when starting a blog they get excited, and have their blog all set and ready to go, then...the question they ask themselves is, "What am I going to write about?"  or "What will be my first blog post?" or "How do I write a blog post?".  It is okay, we have all been there!  Even me!  So to help you get over the hump of writing your blog post, I am going to share a few tips that will help you to get started.

Blog Writing Tips

I have found it helpful that when I plan, brainstorm and research about the main topic for my blog (website) that it provides a foundation for me which helps to get me started and keep things going.  In my previous post, "Start a Blog",  shared some very useful information that will help you to get set up
for your blog at a high level.  Kind of like building the foundation of your blog which will help to keep you focused as we look at Blog Writing Tips.  If you have not checked out the blog post, "Start a Blog", make sure to check it out after reading this one.  I will also include a link to it near the end of
this post for easy access.

Here are 4 Blog Writing Tips that you can use to help with writing your blog post, it doesn't matter if it is your first one or if you are trying to get over being stuck on what to write.
  1. Step 1 - Brainstorm:  Brainstorming is very fun!  You can release some pressure from yourself here because nothing has to be perfect.  Just get a blank piece of paper, a pen or pencil, and start writing topics, words, or phrases that come to your mind.  Brainstorming can take anywhere from a few minutes to a day, all depending on how the ideas come to you.  It is sometimes helpful to have the name of your blog in mind and your purpose to provide some guidance as you brainstorm.  For example, if your website is about Vegan Recipes, you don't want to spend time writing things on your Brainstorm list about Steak Recipes!
  2. Step 2 - Organize what you brainstormed:  Now we will organize what you wrote down as you were brainstorming.  Look at it and see what jumps out at you.  If you see common words, phrases, put them into a group on another sheet of paper.
  3. Step 3 - Create an outline:  Once you have organized what you brainstormed, create an outline using the information from the organization chart you created in Step 2.  I recommend typing your content in a text editor such as word or something similar.  This will make it easy for you when you get to Step 4.
  4. Step 4 - Write a draft using the outline from Step 3:   Before that, go for a walk or something!  Give your mind time to take in what you just did and then take the outline that you just wrote in Step 3, and fill in the blank with content.  Make sure to save your work!

Once you have completed Step 4, you can proof it and post it on your blog!
